About the Role The University of La Verne seeks a part-time Trial Team Coach to lead the College of Law mock trial teams. The role involves coaching students in trial advocacy, preparing them for local, regional, and national competitions, and ensuring adherence to university policies during travel.
What You'll Do
- Instructs students in trial advocacy techniques including, but not limited to, writing and performing opening statements, direct examinations, cross examinations, and closing arguments, and making and responding to objections.
- Teaches students the Federal Rules of Evidence and legal principles and procedures associated with both criminal and civil cases.
- Works with students to develop case themes, theories, and strategies.
- Attends and leads mock trial practices.
- Accompanies students to mock trial competitions and chaperones to ensure that all students adhere to all University policies and procedures throughout the duration of the trip.
What We're Looking For
- Previous participation as a coach and/or competitor in mock trial at a law school
- Ability and willingness to learn University policies and procedures and implement and enforce those policies when chaperoning tournaments.
Nice to Have
- Litigation experience preferred
