Position Summary

The Department of Health Sciences in the School of Education and Health Sciences at North Central College invites applications for a full-time, 9.5-month tenure-track faculty position in Health Science, to begin Fall 2027. This position includes a leadership appointment as Program Director of the undergraduate Health Science program.

The undergraduate Health Science program is one of the College’s largest and fastest-growing academic programs, serving more than 200 undergraduate majors. The successful candidate will provide visionary leadership to support the continued growth, quality, and innovation of the program while contributing to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.

As Program Director, the successful candidate will oversee the undergraduate Health Science program and collaborate closely with the department chair, college leadership, and external partners. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

• Providing leadership for the undergraduate Health Science program.
• Leading curriculum development, review, and continuous program improvement.
• Coordinating program assessment as applicable.
• Advising and mentoring current and prospective Health Science students.
• Managing program planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
• Developing the course schedule in collaboration with department chair and faculty.
• Planning and facilitating program events that foster student engagement, professional development, and community within the major.
• Building and maintaining relationships with healthcare organizations, community partners, and industry professionals to expand experiential learning opportunities.
• Collaborating with graduate programs to develop and strengthen accelerated pathways and graduate education opportunities for Health Science students.
• Supporting student recruitment, retention, and overall program visibility.

This tenure-track position carries a 20-credit annual teaching load, with a portion of teaching responsibilities reassigned to support Program Director duties. Teaching assignments will be based on departmental needs and the successful candidate’s expertise and may include undergraduate courses such as:

• Introduction to Health Sciences
• Community Health
• Epidemiology in the Health Sciences
• Evidence-Based Practice
• Research Methods in the Health Sciences
• Cultural Competency and Health Literacy
• Health Systems and Informatics

In addition to program leadership and teaching, tenure-track faculty are expected to maintain an active program of scholarship, mentor undergraduate students, and contribute to the intellectual life of the College through departmental, school, and institutional service. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarly engagement, collaborative leadership, and fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications

• A doctoral degree (earned by the time of appointment) in Health Science or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates should demonstrate evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching, a developing or established record of scholarship appropriate for a tenure-track appointment, and a commitment to student mentorship. Administrative or program leadership experience, curriculum development, assessment, and experience building partnerships with healthcare organizations or graduate programs are highly desirable. Experience working collaboratively across disciplines and contributing to innovative academic initiatives is also preferred.

Salary Range:

• The budgeted salary range for this position is: $65,000 – $70,000

The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, including equivalent years in rank, training, and field or discipline; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
