Summary of Position
Responsible for assisting with the implementation and management of the Sports Performance program. Assists in the oversight of daily operations, design, development, and implementation of sport specific training programs to improve athletes’ performance, while working to prevent injury.

Responsibilities

In compliance with applicable NCAA Policy, Interassociation Guidelines, and/or Consensus Guidelines and in conjunction with the use of performance data and analytics: tests athletes to evaluate performance level and desired areas of improvement; analyzes available data on strength and conditioning of new and returning student-athletes in order to identify potential levels of physical ability; develops, implements, and monitors safe and effective strength, speed, agility, and conditioning programs to improve physical performance for Women’s Basketball and sports as assigned, including pre-season, in-season, and off-season workouts; instructs proper technique for appropriate sport specific exercises, and implements appropriate exercise sequences, sets, repetitions, recovery periods, load, frequency, and intensity; assists in supervising and monitoring safe and successful operation of sports performance facilities.

Assists in coordinating and participating in team meetings with staff members representing athletic training, performance nutrition, performance psychology, and student athlete development.

Works in conjunction with sports medicine staff as needed to assist in the execution of prevention and rehabilitation programs.

Works under the direction of the performance nutrition staff to assist in the execution of nutrition education programming, as well as safe and healthy techniques related to achieving body composition and performance goals.

Leads the supervision of internships, including instruction and coaching development.

Assists in oversight and management for the overall physical strength, cardiovascular conditioning, position-specific agility, and speed development programming for Olympic sports including program mission and annual development goals.

Assists Associate Athletic Director, Sports Performance with preparing reports and other information/documentation, budget, scheduling, and other administrative duties as assigned.

Maintains strength and conditioning records, prepares reports of athletes’ status and progress.

Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.

Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.

Responsibilities

Actively participates in public relations appearances and community services activities.

Promotes the Sports Performance department, including assisting with on-campus recruiting activities for prospective student-athletes.

Performs all other related duties as assigned or directed in order to promote, further, and ensure the effective and efficient operation of YSU Sports Performance and the Athletic Department.

Complies with certification guidelines for continuing education.

Complies with all NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations, policies, and procedures.

Assists with training new hires.

Performs other duties as assigned and/or required that are within the level of responsibility for this classification at the discretion of the supervisor.

Equipment Operated: Computer and all other standard office equipment; exercise/sports science equipment as needed.

Unusual Working Conditions: May work outside in various weather conditions.

Work Schedule: Typically, Monday through Friday.

Regularly work weekends and evenings as required. Travels with teams, as assigned.

Qualifications and Competencies
Required Certifications, Training, and/or Licensures: CPR/AED and First Aid upon hire*; National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA) Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) Certification at time of application.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of: NCAA rules and regulations; University policies and procedures; office practices and procedures; department/division goals and objectives; workplace safety practices and procedures*; English grammar and spelling; records management.
Skill in: Use of office equipment; typing, data entry; computer operation; use of computer software and other programs applicable to the assigned department/division*.

Minimum Qualifications
At least a bachelor’s degree in exercise science, sports medicine, physical education, or a related field. One or more years of post-graduate strength and conditioning experience in intercollegiate athletics. National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA) Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree. Three or more years of post-graduate strength and conditioning experience in intercollegiate athletics as an assistant or head sports performance/strength and conditioning coach; experience with staff oversight.
Physical Requirements
In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this position will perform light work.
Light: work involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects, requiring: (1) walking or standing to a significant degree; (2) sitting most of the time while pushing or pulling arm or leg controls; or (3) working at a production rate pace while constantly pushing or pulling materials even though the weight or the materials is negligible. (The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.)
