Senior Applications Architect

We are seeking an experienced Senior Applications Architect to lead the design, governance, and evolution of enterprise applications, digital services, integration platforms, and customer-facing technology solutions within a complex Financial Services environment.

This role combines strategic architecture leadership with hands-on engagement across application modernisation, cloud transformation, platform engineering, and enterprise integration initiatives. You will work closely with business stakeholders, product teams, delivery organisations, customers, and suppliers to ensure technology investments deliver measurable business value while maintaining security, resilience, and regulatory compliance.

The successful candidate will bring significant experience operating in large, complex organisations and possess the leadership skills required to influence architecture decisions across business and technology functions.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and maintain application architecture roadmaps aligned with business strategy, digital transformation objectives, and target-state architecture.

• Lead the design of scalable, secure, resilient, and maintainable application solutions across cloud-native, SaaS, bespoke, and legacy technology landscapes.

• Establish application integration, API, event-driven, and microservices architecture standards and best practices.

• Provide architecture governance, design assurance, risk management, and technical leadership across major transformation programmes.

• Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, customers, delivery teams, and suppliers while mentoring architects and technical specialists.

• Skills We Can't Do Without

• Significant experience in Application Architecture, Solution Architecture, Software Engineering, or Enterprise Architecture leadership roles.

• Proven experience delivering enterprise-scale applications, digital services, and transformation programmes within Financial Services, Banking, Insurance, Payments, or similarly regulated sectors.

• Strong expertise in API management, integration platforms, event-driven architectures, distributed systems, and microservices.

• Experience with cloud-native architectures and modern platforms including Microsoft Azure and/or AWS.

• Exceptional stakeholder management, governance, risk management, and architecture assurance capabilities.

• Skills We'd Like

• TOGAF certification and experience applying enterprise architecture frameworks.

• Knowledge of DevSecOps, CI/CD, application security, observability, and modern engineering practices.

• Additional Requirements

• Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain SC clearance.

• Location: UK-based. Remote working is available, with national mobility required.
