Job Description

Are you passionate about building AI solutions that solve real business problems and work reliably beyond the prototype?

As a Senior AI Software Engineer, you design, build and operationalize software solutions in which AI is a core part of the solution. You combine rapid experimentation, enterprise software engineering and production operation to bring solutions from an initial idea into secure, maintainable operation.

When a business team comes to you with a problem nobody yet knows how to solve, you are the person who steps in: you clarify the real need, say openly when a simpler solution will do, and otherwise build it together with them end to end — safely, reliably and in production.

  1. Design and build AI-enabled applications
  • Build AI-enabled solutions, web apps, APIs and workflow integrations using GenAI, agents, document intelligence, computer vision, classical machine learning or similar, but only where AI beats simpler conventional solutions.
  • Turn unclear business problems into testable hypotheses and working vertical slices for early user validation.
  • Assess prototypes from LEONI’s Core AI team, business users, or citizen developers. Decide with stakeholders whether to harden, rewrite, integrate, buy or discontinue them, and take the chosen ones to production with tests, CI/CD, observability and documentation.
  1. Integrate AI with LEONI systems and data
  • Build secure, reusable integrations, MCPs and APIs to LEONI enterprise and engineering systems.
  • Respect existing identity, access and data-governance boundaries instead of copying data into isolated AI apps.
  • Work with system owners to make strategic systems increasingly AI-ready.
  1. Engineer reliable AI behavior
  • Design evaluations, test datasets and tests for probabilistic outputs, with quality thresholds agreed with process owners.
  • Implement risk-appropriate safeguards, human review and fallbacks, and make model limitations visible to users.
  • Protect AI solutions against AI-specific risks such as prompt injection, data leakage through retrieval and unintended agent actions, and, in collaboration with Legal and Information Security, implement controls that relate to compliance with GDPR, the EU AI Act and LEONI's InfoSec requirements.
  • Monitor quality, usage, latency, cost and failures in operation.
  1. Contribute to AI platforms and reusable foundations
  • Build reusable AI services, templates, starter repositories and reference implementations.
  • Shape LEONI's approach to AI-assisted development for IT as well as Citizen Developers and governed business-built applications.
  • Select and compare models and hosting options (e.g. cloud-hosted vs. open-weight) on quality, cost, latency and data-protection criteria, and manage model updates, deprecations and migrations without disrupting users.
  • Help define standard interfaces for document processing, retrieval, model access, authentication, logging and evaluation.
  1. Support improvement of engineering practices in the AI era
  • Promote sound fundamentals such as modular design, version control, automated testing and code review.
  • Use AI coding assistants productively while staying accountable for the result and help set lightweight standards for AI-generated code.
  • Take part in architecture and security reviews and help design proportionate controls for different risk levels.
  1. Work across business, AI and IT
  • Collaborate with LEONI’s Core AI Team, IT architecture, IT security, other IT roles, data owners and process experts to turn business outcomes into delivery increments.
  • Explain trade-offs clearly to non-technical stakeholders and coach other IT Engineers or Citizen Developers, where needed.
  • Contribute implementation know-how to other IT and Citizen Development colleagues without becoming the permanent support owner for a locally built app.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Must-have
  • Experience: Typically 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 2 years building AI- or LLM-based solutions, or equivalent demonstrated impact.
  • Engineering: Strong professional experience building and operating full-stack, pro-code applications in an enterprise environment of comparable size or complexity, with solid fundamentals in architecture, APIs, integration, testing, security and deployment.
  • AI: Proven experience building AI and agentic solutions and run
