Senior Academic and Career Advisor
The Senior Academic & Career Advisor provides coordinated academic and career advising to international students. The Senior Advisor monitors academic alerts and student transitions and, in partnership with the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs and Student Success, coordinates advising standards. The Senior Advisor also liaises between the Provost's NorthStar Committee and the Academic & Career Advisors by bringing forward emerging trends and common barriers for prompt resolution and communicating decisions and improvements. In addition, the Senior Advisor also supports assigned students in the following areas: academic and career planning, degree progress, and required experiential learning.

- University-Wide Advising, Coordination: Coordinates communication and shared practices among Academic & Career Advisors and connects their work with the NorthStar Committee.
- Academic and Career Advising: Advises students in developing integrated academic and career plans that support timely progress toward graduation and preparation for life after college.
- Student Progress, Retention and Completion: Provides proactive support to help students address barriers, maintain academic progress, and complete their degrees.
- Career Readiness and Experiential Learning: Ensures every student identifies and completes meaningful experiential learning connected to academic and career goals.

- Provides advising and related support to international students.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- University-Wide Advising, Coordination: Coordinates communication and shared practices among Academic & Career Advisors and connects their work with the NorthStar Committee.
- Convene Academic & Career Advisors regularly to exchange information, coordinate efforts, and share effective practices.
- Partner with the NorthStar Committee to communicate university-wide advising standards, service expectations, and priorities.
- Monitor the university's academic-alert system to ensure alerts are reviewed, assigned, and communicated promptly to the appropriate Academic & Career Advisor.
- Track advisor follow-up and the status of academic alerts, identify unresolved or recurring concerns, and elevate barriers requiring additional action.
- Gather ideas for improvement and identify emerging trends, common student needs, and recurring institutional barriers.
- Present findings and recommendations to the NorthStar Committee for prompt resolution and communicate decisions and solutions to the advising team.
- Coordinate the implementation of advising improvements, training, and practices approved by the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs and Student Success. Seek input on these items from the NorthStar Committee.
- Academic and Career Advising: Advises students in developing integrated academic and career plans that support timely progress toward graduation and preparation for life after college.
- Assess students' interests, goals, career plans, and prior academic experiences to develop individualized academic and career plans.
- Advise students regarding program requirements, course selection, registration, academic policies, and degree completion.
- Student Progress, Retention and Completion: Provides proactive support to help students address barriers, maintain academic progress, and complete their degrees.
- Monitor registration activity, academic progress, degree completion, and other indicators of student engagement.
- Respond promptly to alerts, enrollment concerns, and signs that a student may be experiencing academic difficulty.
- Career Readiness and Experiential Learning: Ensures every student identifies and completes meaningful experiential learning connected to academic and career goals.
- Incorporate required experiential learning into each student's academic and career plan.
- Help students explore internships, clinical experiences, research, service learning, creative work, and other approved opportunities.
- Coordinate with faculty and external partners to connect students with appropriate experiences.
- Track student planning and progress toward completion of the experiential learningrequirement.

Demonstrates understanding of the institution's interpretation of FERPA rules for the release of student information to faculty, parents, students, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Education, or a related field.

Two or more years of experience working with college students in academic and/or support services.

Bachelor’s degree with 5 or more years of experience in the field may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience with tutoring. testing, and student support.

Working Conditions
