Position Title Research and Instruction Librarian

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Head of Reference Services, the Research and Instruction Librarian provides research and instructional services including information literacy instruction, reference assistance, and liaison outreach to students and faculty at Tuskegee University. In keeping with the President's commitment to Tuskegee University’s "Renaissance Era, this position develops learning-centered approaches to research and instruction, collaborates with teaching faculty to design library assignments and instructional materials, and works to identify needs and opportunities for outreach in assigned academic departments.

Essential Job Duties

• Facilitates consistent and timely access to electronic resources by maintaining and updating links, troubleshooting, and providing user support.
• Assists with the development, implementation, and assessment of new instructional and outreach initiatives to improve library services and collections.
• Assists in the development and design of marketing efforts to promote library instruction, collections, and services to the Tuskegee University community.
• Evaluates new products, services, and technologies for possible library use, including emerging tools relevant to research and information literacy instruction.
• Collects and reports statistics related to instruction, reference, and outreach activities.
• Serves on library and University committees.
• Pursues ongoing professional development to stay current with trends in information literacy instruction, teaching and learning theories, and instructional technology.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least one year of teaching experience or professional-level library experience.
• Working knowledge of a wide variety of electronic reference databases and internet research tools.
• Knowledge of current and emerging trends in information instruction and educational/instructional technologies.
• Experience developing LibGuides, tutorials, and other digital learning objects.

Skills and Attributes

• Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
• Computer literate, including familiarity with social media platforms.
• Working knowledge of Springshare software, specifically LibGuides, LibAnswers, and Ask a Librarian.
• Working knowledge and understanding of Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and other virtual instruction/meeting software.
• Ability to effectively interact with library staff and the University community.
• Adaptability and willingness to engage in continuous learning to meet the evolving needs of library users.
