About the role

The R&D Systems Intern works in collaboration with the R&D Engineering team to design cutting-edge medical devices through testing and create various technical documents.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Researches, develops, designs, and evaluates electrical and electro-mechanical material, components, assemblies, processes and/or equipment.
  • Conducts feasibility studies to verify capability and functionality.
  • Develops new concepts from initial design to market release.
  • Directs support personnel and coordinates project activities.
  • Maintains detailed documentation throughout all phases of research and development.
  • Continuously improve processes and work methodologies (using agile/lean principles to eliminate waste) to help solve complex problems.
  • Contribute to software/system risk assessment activities, Use Design FMEA’s activities.
  • Other duties as required.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering or computer engineering
  • 1+ years of experience with product development activities in a regulated industry.
  • Strong problem-solving skills in a team environment.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills, fluent in both written and spoken English.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience working with integrated systems involving hardware, firmware, and software components.
  • Understanding of systems engineering principles and system-level design concepts.
  • Experience troubleshooting, testing, or supporting complex products or systems.
  • Exposure to cross-functional product development activities through co-op, internship, research, capstone, or student design team projects.
  • Experience coordinating or collaborating across hardware, software, and firmware development teams.
  • Experience with electrical system design, validation, or testing activities.
