The Opportunity
As a MetLife Cybersecurity intern, you’ll work alongside experienced security engineers, contribute to real projects, and share your outcomes and learning experiences with peers and leaders at the end of the program. Our program is designed for students who are curious, adaptable, and eager to learn new technologies in a collaborative, innovative environment.
Application Process & Program Information
Applications for this role will close December 1, 2026. Qualified candidates will be invited to interview on a rolling basis – no interview activity will take place between December 21, 2026 through January 18, 2027. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and must not require MetLife sponsorship or support for a work permit or visa in any capacity now or in the future. Interns will start in person on June 1st, 2027 and will work approximately 40 hours /week over the course of ten weeks – candidates must be available for the entire duration of the program. All Cybersecurity interns will be hybrid in Cary, NC. MetLife does not provide housing or a relocation/housing stipend or support for this role.
Key Responsibilities

At the end of the internship, you will have a chance to share your project outcomes and learning experiences with peers and leaders. Intern projects may include:

Cloud Security: Implementing and validating security controls for cloud-native environments.

Identity & Access Management: Supporting authentication technologies (SSO/MFA), JIT elevation, and automation.

Vulnerability Management: Analyzing vulnerability data, assisting with remediation strategies, and compliance checks.

Threat Intelligence & Awareness: Designing phishing/smishing campaigns and preparing security awareness materials.

Governance, Risk & Compliance: Supporting teams focused on establishing and maintaining a framework to ensure compliance with internal policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

AI Security: Researching risks related to GenAI platforms and supporting security reviews for AI models.

Automation Detection Development: Design and develop automated playbooks to assist with incident response investigations.

Required Qualifications
-
Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree or post-secondary training in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.

Must have an expected graduation date no later than June 2029.

Minimum GPA of 3.0.

Understanding of cybersecurity concepts through coursework or hands-on experience (risk, vulnerabilities, controls).

Coursework or experience with at least one scripting language.

Basic understanding of operating systems (Windows/Linux).

Working understanding of AI capabilities and the ability to use AI tools.

Desire for continuous learning in cybersecurity and emerging technologies.

Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Curiosity, adaptability, and a growth mindset.

Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience with Python, PowerShell, SQL, or low-code automation tools (e.g., n8n).

Relevant cybersecurity certifications or training, such as Security+, SC-200, or equivalent.

Exposure to cloud environments (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).

Experience developing scripts, applications, APIs, or automation workflows through coursework, personal projects, hackathons, or internships.

Familiarity with AI-assisted tools such as GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or similar technologies to support learning, development, and problem-solving.

Demonstrated passion for building, automating, or solving technical challenges through personal projects, home labs, GitHub repositories, cybersecurity competitions, or open-source contributions.

Location Expectation: This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.

The expected salary range for this position is $28-30 /Hour.
