Job title: Lecturer in History

About the Role The Department of History at the University of the Incarnate Word invites part-time lecturers in History for the 2026-2027 academic year. The Lecturer in History will teach survey courses in World History or United States History as needed by the department, in alignment with UIW's mission and professional standards. The applicant pool will remain online during the academic year to hire interested part-time faculty as needed.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare course outlines and teach survey courses in World History or United States History based on approved departmental syllabi; prepare and deliver interactive lectures.
  • Prepare and administer timely and meaningful exams and assessments for assigned courses.
  • Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure that standard curriculum outcomes are met.
  • Be available outside of class to help students learn and to answer their questions (1 hour per 3-hour class, physically and/or electronically).
  • Adhere to UIW Faculty Handbook policies and procedures, including timely record keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students regarding their performance in the course.
  • Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom.
  • Maintain contact with the department chair and participate in meetings upon request.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • Required Education: Master’s Degree in History.
  • Required Work Experience: One (1) year of undergraduate teaching experience, with documentation of student evaluations.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in History.
  • Willingness and flexibility to teach day, evening and weekend sections as needed.
  • Ability to effectively learn and use instructional technology; ability to incorporate technology into teaching.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Nice to Have

  • Ph.D. in History.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $2800/class (Master's); $3100/class (Doctorate).
  • This position is not benefits eligible.
  • Salary based on course assignment.
