Inventory Analyst – Job Description Position Summary
The Inventory Analyst supports Vertiv’s Materials and Inventory organization by providing hands-on analysis, reporting, and data governance that improves supply chain performance. The role focuses on core objectives: providing clear visibility into DIO drivers, managing MRP parameters related to inventory, understanding the connection between DIO performance and Promised Date Service Level (PDSL) OTD-P, and strengthening Excess & Obsolete (E&O) reporting and alignment. The analyst partners with Regional Materials teams, Purchasing, Planning, and Finance to ensure accurate data, proactive shortage identification, and consistent, actionable reporting across sites.
Responsibilities

Reporting, Data Preparation & Insights Development

Build new and repeatable inventory reports to create visibility into DIO drivers, fast‑turning materials, shortages and stockouts, backlog/work order alignment, and delivery frequency.

Pull, clean, and analyze large datasets to ensure data is usable and accurate despite imperfections.

Prepare concise summaries and dashboards for weekly and monthly inventory reviews.

Conduct first-pass analysis to validate trends or discrepancies before escalating to leadership.

DIO Support & Visibility into DIO Drivers

Analyze what drives DIO up or down each period, including slow movers, PO/WO misalignment, supplier performance, and demand variability.

Build datasets that allow leadership to understand key DIO drivers.

Track recurring patterns influencing DIO and document findings for cross-functional follow-up.

Provide insights that help plant teams understand the impact of planning and purchasing on DIO performance.

MRP Parameter Governance & Optimization

Review and analyze MRP planning parameters including safety stock, reorder points, fixed lead times, order modifiers, lot sizing, and sourcing attributes to identify opportunities for inventory optimization.

Develop reporting that highlights parameter settings contributing to excess inventory, stockouts, shortages, or service level risk.

Partner with Planning, Purchasing, and Materials teams to monitor parameter accuracy and recommend updates based on demand patterns, lead time performance, and inventory objectives.

Support periodic parameter reviews to ensure planning settings remain aligned with current business conditions, supplier performance, and manufacturing requirements.

Identify and escalate inconsistent or outdated MRP parameters across sites and drive standardization where appropriate.

Analyze the impact of parameter changes on DIO, PDSL, inventory levels, and material availability, providing data-driven recommendations to leadership.

Maintain governance processes and reporting to track parameter compliance, changes, and opportunities for continuous improvement.

PDSL Improvement & Shortage Prevention

Develop reporting that identifies materials at risk of missing promised delivery dates.

Monitor fast‑turning materials to detect early signs of emerging shortages.

Excess & Obsolete (E&O) Reporting & Management

Prepare and refresh E&O reports, consolidating plant and Finance data.

Track plant-provided reasons and actions for E&O and identify inconsistencies.

Support root-cause investigation for recurring E&O drivers.

Create simple trackers and visuals to support leadership reviews.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Analytics, Finance, Engineering, or related field.

3+ years of post-college experience in analytics, supply chain, operations, or materials.

Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data structuring).

Ability to analyze large, imperfect datasets.
-
Strong communication, organization, and follow‑through.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or Smartsheet.

Exposure to manufacturing, materials planning, purchasing, or inventory management.

Experience supporting inventory health metrics such as DIO or shortage analysis.
