Job title: Intern - Priority Africa and External Relations Sector
About the Role The intern will support UNESCO's Sector for Priority Africa and External Relations (PAX) with coordination, liaison, information, and communication tasks. This role involves assisting in preparing notes and proposals, researching briefing materials, coordinating contributions to statutory meetings, engaging with delegations and partners, and supporting events and intranet updates.
What You'll Do
- Prepare preliminary draft notes, memoranda, letters and/or Sector proposals for submission to member States, Programmes Sectors, and potential public and private partners.
- Assist in researching and analyzing information for briefings for bilateral meetings.
- Provide assistance in coordinating the Sector’s contributions to statutory meetings (General Conference, Executive Board) and drafting reports.
- Respond to queries with timely, accurate information to maintain relationships with Delegations, Programme Sectors, Central services, Field Offices, partners and other stakeholders.
- Assist in organizing meetings and events and provide technical support to ensure team success.
- Update PAX Website on intranet with information related to Member States, UNESCO events, and publications.
- Undertake any other tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.
What We're Looking For
- Age: at least 20 years old.
- Academic qualifications: currently enrolled and on the 3rd year or final year of Bachelor’s degree; OR enrolled in a second degree (Master/PhD); OR completed a degree no more than 12 months prior to the Internship Agreement.
- Languages: excellent command of English or French; working knowledge of the other language is an asset.
- Computer skills: excellent knowledge of computer systems and office-related software.
- Personal attributes: strong teamwork, adaptability to an international environment, and good interpersonal and communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of both English and French is an asset to support diverse assignments.
Compensation & Benefits
- UNESCO does not remunerate interns. There is no financial compensation for internship assignments.
- Leave: 2.5 days per month, plus an additional 1 working day per complete month of internship.
- Insurance: limited workplace insurance coverage for injury, illness, disability, or death incurred during the internship and attributable to its execution.
- Additional practical notes: you are responsible for visa, travel arrangements, and arranging comprehensive health insurance valid in the host country.
