About this role

Mercor

Mercor is building a high-quality library of realistic financial-crime and KYC analyst work products.

Selected professionals will complete self-contained case exercises using mock files. There is no access to live systems or client data. The resulting analyst deliverables are evaluated against defined rubrics, with every client-style output remaining a draft.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adjudicate transaction-monitoring alerts using alert packets, KYC/CDD profiles and transaction histories.

  • Document alert dispositions and draft SAR narratives where warranted.

  • Review client onboarding and KYC packets for completeness and cross-document discrepancies.

  • Prepare remediation lists for identified KYC/CDD issues.

  • Analyse multi-layer beneficial ownership structures and apply 10%/25% UBO thresholds.

  • Adjudicate sanctions and adverse-media hits as true matches, false positives or escalations, with clear rationales.

  • Triage supervisory alert queues.

  • Adjudicate card fraud and disputes.

  • Assess flagged communications against relevant trade records.

  • Required Qualifications & Experience

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in one or more of the following:

  • AML / Financial Crime

  • KYC / CDD

  • Sanctions Screening

  • Fraud / Disputes

  • Transaction Surveillance

  • Working knowledge of FinCEN, FATF and OFAC frameworks.

  • Understanding of SAR and CDD documentation standards.

  • Ability to produce clear, defensible written rationales.

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • CAMS / ACAMS or CFE certification.

  • Experience with Enhanced Due Diligence.

  • Experience in entity unwinding.

  • SQL or transaction analytics experience.

  • Fintech or payments industry experience.

  • Assessment Process

Candidates will complete a timed practical exercise involving:

  • A mock transaction-monitoring alert packet requiring disposition and SAR narrative.

  • A KYC packet requiring discrepancy identification and remediation recommendations.

  • A batch of sanctions hits requiring adjudication and written rationale.

  • Contract & Payment Terms

  • Independent contractor engagement.

  • Fully remote.

  • Approximately 15 hours per week.

  • Work can be completed on your own schedule.

  • Projects may be extended, shortened or concluded early depending on business requirements and performance.

  • Payments are made weekly through Stripe or Wise based on services rendered.

  • The work does not involve confidential or proprietary information from employers, clients or institutions.

  • Mercor currently cannot support H-1B or STEM OPT candidates.

  • Important Eligibility Note

  • This opportunity has a United States location requirement. Therefore, despite the remote work arrangement, it should not be presented as an India-based remote opportunity. Candidates should carefully verify their eligibility before applying.

  • Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • This is different from a conventional AML/KYC employment role. The work involves applying real-world financial-crime expertise to structured case exercises that help train and improve AI systems.

  • Professionals with strong practical experience in transaction monitoring, KYC/CDD, sanctions, fraud, SAR documentation and financial-crime investigations can use their existing expertise in a flexible, project-based environment.

  • About Mercor

  • Mercor partners with leading AI labs and enterprises to use human expertise in training and enhancing AI systems. Selected experts work on projects related to their professional domain while collaborating with researchers and contributing domain knowledge to AI development.
