About the Role

Reporting directly to the Vice President of IT – OneVision Development & Transversal Services, the Director of Software Development & Engineering will lead one of MSC's largest software engineering organizations, supporting critical business domains including Finance, Fleet, Marketing, IoT, and other strategic platforms used across MSC's global operations.

This role is responsible for the leadership, performance, and evolution of a global software development organization comprising more than 200 software professionals, including software engineers, architects, technical leads, managers, and offshore development teams.

The successful candidate will drive the delivery of a broad portfolio of enterprise applications and digital products while ensuring engineering excellence, scalability, quality, and operational effectiveness across a complex global environment.

This is not a traditional IT infrastructure or operations leadership role. We are seeking a senior software engineering leader with experience managing large-scale development organizations, industrialized software delivery models, and globally distributed teams.

Key Responsibilities

• In this role, you will lead and develop a global software engineering organization of more than 200 professionals, including software engineers, architects, technical leads, managers, and offshore development teams.

• You will be accountable for the delivery, performance, and continuous evolution of a large portfolio of enterprise applications and digital products supporting Finance, Fleet, Marketing, IoT, and other strategic business domains across MSC's global operations.

• You will drive engineering excellence, software quality, delivery predictability, modernization initiatives, and operational efficiency across a complex, multi-location development environment.

• Working closely with business and technology executives, you will define priorities, shape technology roadmaps, allocate resources, and ensure the successful execution of strategic initiatives.

• The role also includes leading a multi-layer management structure, developing leadership capabilities across the organization, establishing scalable governance and delivery frameworks, managing strategic vendors and offshore delivery partners, and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

• Required Experience

• 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in software engineering, software development, or technology delivery organizations.

• Proven track record leading large-scale software development organizations of 200+ professionals.

• Experience managing globally distributed teams and large offshore development centers, particularly in India.

• Demonstrated success leading managers and senior leaders within complex matrix organizations.

• Strong background in enterprise software development, engineering governance, architecture, and large-scale technology delivery.

• Experience overseeing extensive application portfolios and multiple concurrent development initiatives.

• Proven ability to drive organizational transformation, delivery improvement, and engineering maturity at scale.

• Experience managing vendor ecosystems and global delivery models.

• Experience within transportation, logistics, shipping, or other highly operational and global industries is a strong advantage.

• Leadership Profile

• The ideal candidate comes from a large-scale software engineering environment, such as a global technology company, enterprise software vendor, digital platform, major financial institution, telecommunications organization, or multinational development center.

• You understand how to lead software organizations at scale, where hundreds of engineers contribute across multiple products, platforms, and business domains. You have experience operating in highly structured global delivery environments and know how to balance speed, quality, governance, and business value.

• You are equally comfortable discussing engineering strategy with architects, delivery execution with engineering leaders, organizational design with senior management, and technology investments with executive stakeholders.

• Most importantly, you have experience running a true software factory environment, where software development is delivered through large distributed teams, mature engineering practices, and industrialized delivery processes, rather than through small localized teams or boutique consulting models.

• Travel

• Approximately 20% international travel.
