Coordinator/Academic Advisor-Clinton, MO
GENERAL SUMMARY: This position serves as an education coordinator/faculty advisor for undergraduate degree programs in Child Development, Educational Studies and Certification Only and in Education in the areas of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle School, Secondary, and Special Education; in addition, general recruitment and advising for assigned undergraduate programs.
This position will be responsible for comprehensive recruitment, managing student records, building partnerships with the Assistant Dean, Dean, CGES Admissions, administrative offices, community college partners, and the community. Develops and executes outreach/marketing strategies, coordinates services to support student success, and ensures program quality and local faculty support.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Academic Advising & Services (60%)
Advising & Degree/Certification Tracking: Provide personalized academic advising, evaluate transfer credits, and guide students through degree plans, DESE/district teacher certification rules, and student teaching placements.
Progress Monitoring & Graduation Readiness: Regularly audit student records and degree milestones, intervene with academic support or campus referrals when needed, and assist students through final degree completion and commencement.
Campus & Student Service Coordination: Connect students with institutional resources (e.g., accommodations, library, tutoring) and collaborate with university and community college personnel to ensure continuous academic support and student satisfaction.
Recruitment and Retention (30%)
Marketing, Outreach & Community Engagement: Execute multi-channel promotional strategies; conduct outreach activities related to partner and community events, and build pathways with partner colleges, high schools, and local organizations.
Inquiry Management & Market Development: Provide prompt, professional follow-up across prospective student inquiries while identifying and pursuing new student markets (traditional, transfer, and working adults).
Data-Driven Retention & Strategy Assessment: Track and evaluate enrollment and retention metrics to refine outreach and advising tactics for sustainable program growth.
Collegial Leadership (10%)
Campus Leadership: Deliver customer-service-driven leadership across with campus activities and operations.
Extended Studies & Institutional Collaboration: Actively collaborate as a member of the CGES team to support regional goals, university strategic initiatives.
Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree, master’s preferred; and five years of progressively responsible experience in an area related to the responsibilities of the position; Experience working with Microsoft Office products and enrollment management products.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Regularly required to sit for long periods of time. Travel between regional locations, regional communities, and CMU campuses. Must lift, carry, and move a minimum of 20 pounds on an occasional basis.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must have strong advising experience and interpersonal skills. Must be committed to student success, quality programs, and degree attainment. Must show a demonstrated commitment to professional excellence and integrity and to the values, vision, and goals of Central Methodist University. Must be able to communicate articulately and compellingly in writing and in speech. Ability to set and meet timelines and prioritize own work and that of staff. Must maintain accurate and confidential records of student academic and college-related information.
