About the Role Sompo is seeking an Assistant Vice President in our E&S Property team to drive catastrophe protection for a range of commercial occupancies and manage risk across the U.S. from Alpharetta, GA or Chicago, IL. The role involves underwriting leadership, pricing analysis, and collaboration with clients and brokers to grow profitable business.
What You'll Do
- Effectively drive acceptable submission activity and determine risk acceptability per Sompo guidelines
- Review applications and financial requirements, understand pricing components, and price risk based on financial/competitive analysis
- Use underwriting tools and knowledge of strategies to ensure guidelines are followed; perform thorough account reviews and maintain file documentation
- Analyze adverse underwriting decisions, rate appeals, requirements, status and declinations to drive results in the assigned territory
- Minimize exposure and appropriately price risks through adherence to guidelines; stay current on state regulations and trends
- Demonstrate ability to use sophisticated pricing models across structures (guaranteed cost, captives, SIRs, deductibles)
- Attend client/broker meetings and travel as needed to market the territory
- Mentor Underwriting Trainees and junior underwriters
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 8+ years of underwriting/insurance experience; Bachelor's degree preferred
- Experience underwriting all sizes of accounts with large broker houses, wholesalers, and specialty retailers
- Established underwriting, quoting, and binding track record of profitable business
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with insureds, agents, and brokers regionally and nationally
- Strong negotiation skills; team player with attention to detail
- Strong communication and collaboration skills; willing to travel as needed
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range: $150,000 – $185,000 (USD) with a pay-for-performance culture
