Position Summary

The Lab Technician will provide technical support for the Industrial Maintenance Technician (IMT) and Automation and Control Technology (ACT) laboratories at the Mason Campus. Responsibilities include maintaining lab equipment in proper working condition and assisting instructors with hands-on lab activities to support IMT and ACT course instruction.

The minimum wage for this position is $27.30 per hour and will work 28 hours per week. This position has an expected start date for the Spring 2027 semester.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Provide support to instructors in labs for ACT program as required
  • Clean, repair and maintain lab spaces and equipment
  • Lay out lab equipment, tools, and instruments for student lab activities
  • Maintain supply inventory, purchase supplies and equipment as required
  • Move and install equipment within the lab as needed
  • Act as lead for safe lab practices, including maintaining safety equipment
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Minimum of an associate’s degree required; bachelor’s degree preferred

  • Minimum of 3 years’ work experience in manufacturing operations or a technical education field; prior work experience in a manufacturing role preferred

  • Must be highly skilled in miscellaneous mechanical trades to operate and maintain complex equipment such as Robotics, PLC, Sensors, Hydraulic and Pneumatic stations and various other pieces of analytical equipment required

  • Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to show students the proper use of equipment required

  • Must be able to work with faculty on design of appropriate lab experiences required

  • Ability to work flexibly and cooperatively with students and faculty in a supportive role required

  • Ability to work on multiple tasks while providing great attention to detail and meeting all prescribed deadlines required

  • Professional communication skills (both written and oral), telephone etiquette, positive attitude with a strong desire to assist people required

  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Word, Outlook, and Excel with the ability to learn/utilize and programs/databases used by the college in this role required
