Job Summary

The Department of History and Political Science seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in History to begin on January 1, 2026. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in History, with a concentration in either Africana history, African American history, U.S. History, or African history. Scholars in public history and historic preservation are encouraged to apply with the expectation that they will teach a future graduate course in Historic Preservation.

Essential Job Duties

• Responsibilities include teaching four history classes (12 hours per semester); engaging in scholarly research; serving on committees; advising students; and performing other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.
• Required Applicant Materials: Curriculum Vita, Writing Sample (one article or Book/dissertation chapter), Three recommendation letters, Letter describing teaching philosophy and scholarly research agenda

Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. in History or related social science fields, including a master’s degree in history
