About this role

Assistant Professor - Music Technology

The College of Staten Island, CUNY, seeks a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor, specializing in music technology. This position will develop and deliver a curriculum that integrates traditional and contemporary music technology methods, materials, and conceptual approaches.

The ideal candidate will teach electronic music composition, audio production, and sound design courses; have advanced knowledge of industry-standard software and languages, such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Max/MSP, etc.; and have knowledge of traditional sound design principles, theory, and history. The ideal candidate will play a key role in shaping a progressive curriculum that spans technical mastery, creative artistry, and cultural context, encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration and fostering connections with related disciplines such as sound design, film scoring, interactive media, and live event production.

The ability to teach in a secondary area – such as music theory, musicianship, musicology, or applied music – would be welcome.

The College of Staten Island is a four-year public institution within the City University of New York system. Ranked #33 in Top Performers in Social Mobility by U.S. News and World Report, the College serves approximately 11,000 students, including undergraduates, graduates, and Ph.D.s, on a 200-acre campus. The Performing and Creative Arts Department, housed within the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences, includes Art History, Dance, Drama, Music, Photography, and Studio Art, serving approximately 200 majors, as well as delivering courses for General Education requirements. The department produces numerous performances and events for the campus and community each year, including a Festival of Electronic Music. Facilities consist of one large electronic-music studio with hardware and software for composition and sound design, and a recording studio. It is hoped that the successful candidate would work to secure funding for these facilities and oversee the renovation of the recording studio.
