Job title: 3D Animator
About the Role Amber Studio is expanding its talent network for project-based collaborations in game development. The animator role focuses on bringing life to 3D characters and objects through movement and performance, collaborating with modelers, designers, and programmers to create believable, immersive experiences. We’re proactively building a network of qualified candidates for future paid partnerships.
What You'll Do
- Create high-quality, believable 3D animations for in-game characters, creatures, and objects (walking, running, jumping, talking, interaction)
- Rig characters in collaboration with modelers to produce animator-friendly rigs with a wide range of movement and expressions
- Edit and refine motion capture data to fit game style and character personalities
- Collaborate with game designers, artists, and programmers to ensure animations work seamlessly in the game
- Integrate animations into the game engine with the technical team, troubleshoot and maintain performance and visual quality
- Participate in iterative reviews, receptive to feedback and revisions to meet quality standards and direction
- Manage time efficiently to meet estimated timelines and delivery dates
- Communicate progress daily or as requested and assist in meetings or communications as needed
What We're Looking For
- Strong foundations in animation principles (timing, weight, facial expressions)
- Technical understanding to manage assets for memory and performance considerations
- Deep knowledge of character rigging and skinning
- Keen eye for detail and ability to deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines
- Familiarity with Unity or Unreal Engine
- Self-directed and strong team-player with good verbal and written communication
- Proactive and open to direction and iteration
- Strong problem-solving abilities and proactive approach to addressing challenges in 3D asset creation
- Knowledge of industry-standard pipelines, workflows and asset exporting
- Quick learner of new processes and software
- 3-5 years of experience in the videogame industry and at least 3 credited games
- Software expertise: Maya, 3DS Max, Blender (or equivalent)
- Unreal Engine 5 and Unity
- ZBrush
- Adobe Photoshop
- Substance Painter
- Required application materials: Resume/CV, Cover letter, Reel or Portfolio demonstrating art and technical skills

- Substance Designer is a plus
