About the Role The Yard Driver role at DHL is a second-shift, onsite position that involves operating switching equipment, tractors, and straight trucks to transport goods to and from designated locations. The role supports efficient loading and unloading operations, maintains a clean and safe dock area, and performs clerical tasks such as printing BOLs and checking in inbound drivers.
What You'll Do
- Perform clerical duties such as printing BOL's and checking in inbound drivers.
- Drive switching equipment, tractors, and straight trucks to transport goods or equipment to and from designated locations.
- Make decisions in sequencing schedules to maintain efficient loading and unloading operations.
- Load and unload trailers and verify product count; secure loads and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines.
- Maintain a clean and safe docking area; report maintenance or safety issues to supervision.
- Refuel vehicles on site and document locations and condition of equipment.
- Maintain safe and efficient dock operation by switching trailers and equipment to and from docks.
- Perform daily yard checks and inspect truck equipment and supplies (tires, lights, brakes, fuel, oil, water).
- Prepare and maintain accurate records and logs as required by policies and procedures.
- Comply with all company policies, procedures, and guidelines.
What We're Looking For
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Minimum of one year verifiable experience driving, switching or commercial tractor.
- Ability to perform tasks associated with dock operations, including loading, unloading, and clerical duties like printing BOLs.
- Strong attention to safety and adherence to local, state, and federal guidelines.
