About this role

Job Description:

In order to support Mass Properties department, Airbus Defence and Space is looking for a Working Student (d/f/m) in the area of Mass Properties

You are a full time student, looking for a working student position and want to get to know the work of a Working Student (d/f/m) in the area of Mass Properties? Then apply now! We look forward to you supporting us in the Mass Properties department as a working student (d/f/m) with approx. 18 hours a week!

Location: Manching Start: January 2027 Duration: 12 months

Definition working student

Working students (d/f/m) are students who are enrolled at a University or some other institution of higher education, and who are employed in a reasonably long, fixed-term position parallel to their studies. This position must not be confused with an internship or with the possibility of writing a final thesis.

This employment usually takes place directly on the company's premises. A working student's main focus remains on their studies, which is why, during term-time, working students are not allowed to work more than 20 hours per week.

Working students therefore usually work near their place of study, so as to conveniently combine studying and employment.

Your location

Located about an hour’s drive north of Munich, Manching is an up-and-coming market town that offers a wide range of leisure and cultural activities. Here, you can enjoy the quality of life in the countryside while the pleasures of near-by cities are still within easy reach.

Our mission

Mass Properties Manching is responsible for defining, calculating, and controlling the mass data set throughout the entire life‑cycle of an aircraft. This data set includes mass, centre of gravity and moment of inertia at component, system and aircraft levels. It is required, for example, for the preliminary design of future projects, structural design, system development, support of flight‑test campaigns, and in‑service support. Consequently, the department maintains interfaces with a variety of disciplines, both within and outside the Flight Physics domain. To keep the growing mass properties data set organised and to trace every change throughout the development of our new projects, we are building a Python‑driven, SQLite‑backed database application. In parallel, we are exploring how AI‑based automation can further increase the efficiency and accuracy of our analyses.

Your benefits

  • Attractive salary and work-life balance with an 18-hour week (flexitime).
  • A final thesis is possible after consultation with the department.
  • Mobile working after agreement with the department.
  • International environment with the opportunity to network globally.
  • Work with modern/diversified technologies.
  • Opportunity to participate in the Generation Airbus Community to expand your own network.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Database Management: Support the design and implementation of database structures, queries, and data models using relational databases.
  • Workflow Automation: Identify and automate repetitive engineering workflows and data-processing tasks to increase efficiency.
  • Data Integration & Processing: Develop tools for importing, validating, transforming, and integrating data from various engineering sources and tools.
  • AI Research & Prototyping: Investigate and evaluate the application of AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) by developing prototypes for engineering workflows.
  • Software Quality Assurance: Ensure software reliability by developing automated/manual test cases, documenting bugs, and improving code maintainability.

Desired skills and qualifications

  • Enrolled full-time student (d/f/m) in Computer Science, Data Science, Informatics, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Good programming skills in Python and a strong interest in software development.

  • Interest in learning and working with technologies such as: PyQt for GUI development, Git for version control, Jira and Confluence for project management, AI and Large Language Models (LLMs).
