Job title: Working Shop Supervisor

About the Role Under the direction of Plant Manager, the Working Shop Supervisor is responsible for directing shop employees and the flow of processes to achieve highest productivity and quality in a safe manner to meet customer requirements and government regulations.

What You'll Do

  • Direct shop employees and manage the flow of processes to achieve high productivity and quality while maintaining safety to meet customer requirements and government regulations.
  • Ship and receive mill rolls; verify roll numbers with paperwork; organize rolls; maintain the production board and logbook.
  • Communicate with customers to schedule pickups and deliveries; coordinate rolls requiring outside processing; prepare Bill of Lading and shipping documents.
  • Schedule trucks for pickups/deliveries; enter rolls into Burns Harbor “LIVE” system; maintain job folders and assign jobs to each machine.
  • Inspect rolls for defects; document non-conforming product and causes; report production/trucking activity on logs.
  • Maintain organization of rolls in shop; coordinate rolls to/from outside processing; organize and stage rolls near processing machines.
  • Train operators on safe operating procedures; enforce plant rules and safety programs; respond to emergencies and execute Emergency Contingency Plan.
  • Promote teamwork; communicate shift information to relief supervisors, management, and customers; maintain housekeeping and safety.
  • Issue hot work permits when needed; pre-inspect area prior to welding; appoint fire watch; transport rolls using the crane.
  • Maintain foreman logbook with customer communications; provide first aid and CPR until responders arrive.

What We're Looking For

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Previous supervision experience desired.
  • Mechanical aptitude and basic math skills.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to read an SDS for safe handling of chemicals and spill cleanup information.
  • Knowledge/training in overhead crane operation; Hazardous Communication; First Aid and CPR.
  • Ability to follow company procedures; hands-on supervision.
  • Strong communication skills; professional relationship with customers.
  • Willingness to work onsite and coordinate with multiple functions (shipping, maintenance, production).
