Role Overview

This position is for a highly skilled Windows Infrastructure Engineer/Architect with experience in securing, scaling, and supporting core enterprise identity and access management platforms. The candidate will serve as the subject matter expert and highest-tier escalation point for the Active Directory (AD) environment and Azure Active Directory /Microsoft Entra ID cloud integrations. This role involves architecting robust identity solutions, managing the Enterprise Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), and providing high-level architectural support to ensure security, compliance, and system availability across a hybrid environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the subject matter expert for the Active Directory environment and Azure AD/Microsoft Entra ID cloud integrations.

• Architect robust identity solutions, manage Enterprise Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), and provide high-level Tier 3 architectural support.

• Set standards for the infrastructure team and act as an escalation point for issues beyond Tier 1 and Tier 2 support.

• Provide hands-on support in program operations, configuration, deployment, maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting.

• Develop and enforce Azure governance frameworks, including Azure Policy, Management Groups, and Blueprints.

• Configure, maintain, and upgrade 2019, 2022, & 2025 servers operating systems.

• Configure, maintain, and upgrade physical and virtual server installations in datacenters.

• Design, deploy, and maintain Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS) / PKI environments.

• Actively participate in reviewing and improving operational processes, procedures, technology, and documentation.

• Create, monitor, and drive to resolution change requests and trouble tickets for Windows Servers and applications.

• Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related technical field, and 8+ years of progressive Windows Infrastructure Engineer/Architect experience OR Master’s degree in a related field and 6+ years of relevant experience. Equivalent additional experience may substitute for the degree.

• 6+ years of experience in cloud operations, engineering, or a related field.

• 3+ years performing at a senior and lead level with design and architecture ownership for an enterprise Windows environment.

• Significant experience designing, operating, and maintaining Microsoft Azure environments.

• Experience with the configuration, deployment, and management of Microsoft Entra ID / Azure AD for centralized identity, SSO, and RBAC.

• Demonstrated experience with the integration of federated identity solutions with AWS Identity Center, Entra, or on-premises Active Directory.

• Hands-on experience with networking concepts (DNS, VPNs, load balancers) and cloud-based networking configurations.

• Experience with ITIL4 and ServiceNow.

• Deep expertise in Microsoft Azure architecture, Microsoft Entra ID, and on-prem interoperability.

• Familiarity with orchestration tools like Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.

• Ability to script in languages such as Python, Bash, Visual Basic, or PowerShell.

• Strong understanding of federated identity, modern authentication protocols (SAML, OIDC, OAuth 2.0), and cross-cloud authentication mechanisms.

• Applied knowledge of system security engineering, including CIS and STIG hardening, and vulnerability management.

Certifications:

• Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator Associate certification (AZ-104).

• Current baseline certification appropriate for Intermediate System Administrator roles (e.g., Security+, GSEC, SSCP, or equivalent).

• Work Conditions

• The work location is partial remote, with the need to support on-site work in Washington, DC as needed.

• Physical requirements include the ability to lift 50+ pounds.

• Candidates must be able to obtain and/or maintain a Public Trust clearance as a condition and continuation of employment.
