About the Role The Winder Operator on the 2nd shift supports the winding line by setting up equipment, running the winding machine, and inspecting produced tubes to meet specifications. The role requires attention to detail, safety, and collaboration with the Line Lead and production team. What You'll Do
- Review job orders to determine the appropriate equipment and materials (mandrel size, belt, paper width/size)
- Set up and operate the winding machine, including adjusting angles, tension, and ribbon spacing
- Prepare glue pots and adhesives to ensure proper bonding of all plies
- Splice additional paper as needed to maintain a smooth production flow
- Verify outer diameter and core thickness hourly and document measurements
- Set up and operate the tube saw with the proper blades and settings for diameter and cut length
- Monitor safety, dimensions, adhesion, ply spacing, and quality; address issues as they arise
- Work with Line Support, Line Lead, and Production Associate; serve as back-up to the Line Lead
- Perform routine equipment maintenance including lubrication and oiling
- Keep machines and work area clean; return unused materials to storage
- Instruct helpers in proper machine use and follow safety guards What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or GED; 1-3 months related experience or training
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to complete production reports
- Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide) in all units of measure
- Ability to apply common sense and follow written/oral instructions; solve problems with several concrete variables in standardized situations
