About the Role The Wind Field Service Technician role sits within ZF’s Wind Power Technology business, supporting customers across the U.S. and Canada. Based in Vernon Hills, IL, the technician travels 80–100% to perform on-site wind turbine repairs, maintenance, and troubleshooting, reporting to the Wind Field Service Manager. What You'll Do
- Use heating, cutting torches, hydraulic presses, high‑pressure extraction devices, heavy power tools, and liquid nitrogen to remove couplings and disassemble high pressure joints
- Rig Heavy Industrial Equipment on/off vehicles with overhead cranes and level/align machines for testing
- Mark matched components and label disassembled parts
- Sketch part assembly diagrams to enable reassembly with minimal questions
- Clean parts via power wash or by hand for inspection
- Disassemble/reassemble all machine components including bearings, couplings, and high‑pressure joints (up to 4000 bar)
- Create and document failure analysis reports
- Troubleshoot and perform final testing
- Identify field failures, communicate with customers, schedule repairs, arrange travel, and prepare expense reports on return What We're Looking For
- High School Diploma or GED and 5+ years of hands-on mechanical repair and inspection experience
- Previous field service travel experience
- Ability to climb 300 feet with 35 lbs of gear and work in confined spaces
- Ability to work alone
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally
- Current driver’s license
- Wind industry experience and/or products preferred Nice to Have
- Experience in the wind industry and/or its products (preferred) Compensation & Benefits
- Base compensation: $57,800 – $72,300 annually
