About the Role Join the Fort Wayne Zoo team as a Wild Lights Associate for the seasonal Zoo Lights program. This temporary, event-focused role supports installing, operating, maintaining, and removing decorative lighting and event elements, plus logistics and guest service to create an immersive nighttime experience. What You'll Do
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and remove decorative lighting, displays, and event infrastructure across the Zoo.
- Assist with transformation of the Zoo into an immersive seasonal attraction through event setup, staging, and décor installation.
- Perform tear-down and safely store materials, equipment, and decorations after the event season.
- Operate heavy machinery and powered equipment (aerial lifts, forklifts, skid steers) as required.
- Follow all safety procedures, equipment operating guidelines, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements while performing duties.
- Assist with loading, unloading, transporting, and organizing event materials, equipment, and supplies.
- Perform routine inspections, minor maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of lighting displays and event equipment.
- Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of event spaces, storage areas, and Zoo grounds before, during, and after events.
- Support the daily operation of seasonal events by assisting with logistics, crowd flow, and operational needs.
- Provide friendly, professional guest service while interacting with guests, volunteers, vendors, and staff.
- Work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced outdoor environment under varying weather conditions.
- Collaborate closely with cross departmental teams – including Guest Services, Security, Operations Services, Animal Care, and Maintenance – to ensure successful event execution.
- Perform general office functions to support the administrative needs of the Guest Experience department.
- Accept other projects and duties as assigned by the Guest Experience Manager.

- High school diploma or GED required.
- One year of event planning, hospitality, project management, sponsorship, or related work experience preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to professionally communicate in writing and verbally.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to handle confidential information.
- Ability to work a highly flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, holidays, and irregular hours.
