About this role
MAIN FUNCTIONS
- Provide field-based technical support for the safe and efficient execution of wellbore construction activities.
- Supervise and monitor drilling operations in accordance with approved drilling programs, well designs, procedures, and company standards.
- Coordinate well construction activities from spud through drilling, casing, cementing, pressure testing, and well handover.
- Monitor drilling parameters, hole conditions, hydraulics, torque and drag, rate of penetration, and other critical wellbore indicators.
- Review and verify drilling programs, casing and cementing programs, BHA designs, well schematics, and operational procedures.
- Monitor hole cleaning, wellbore stability, lost circulation, differential sticking, pack-off, tight hole, and other potential wellbore problems.
- Provide field support for casing, liner, and completion string running operations.
- Monitor cementing operations, including pre-job checks, displacement, pressure testing, cement returns, and post-job evaluation.
- Coordinate with drilling contractors and specialist service companies, including mud engineers, directional drillers, MWD/LWD, wireline, cementing, and logging personnel.
- Ensure well construction activities are performed within approved operational parameters and engineering limits.
- Review real-time drilling and well data and identify trends, abnormal conditions, and opportunities for operational improvement.
- Support well control operations and ensure the integrity and availability of primary and secondary well barriers.
- Participate in well control drills, emergency response activities, and operational risk assessments.
- Troubleshoot wellbore construction challenges and recommend practical corrective actions to minimize non-productive time.
- Conduct pre-job meetings, toolbox talks, operational readiness reviews, and post-job reviews.
- Monitor contractor and service company performance and ensure compliance with approved procedures and contractual requirements.
- Verify that equipment, materials, personnel, and services required for well construction activities are available and fit for purpose.
- Ensure accurate preparation and maintenance of daily drilling reports, well construction records, service reports, and technical documentation.
- Participate in well integrity reviews, well suspension, abandonment, completion, and handover activities as required.
- Identify lessons learned and recommend improvements to well construction practices, procedures, and future well programs.
- Ensure all field activities comply with company HSE requirements, environmental standards, permit-to-work procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving drilling performance, wellbore quality, safety, and cost efficiency.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Drilling or Well Construction Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree or HND in Petroleum Engineering, Drilling Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 7–10 years of relevant experience in drilling, well construction, or well engineering, with substantial field-based experience.
- Experience in offshore, deepwater, or complex well construction operations is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of drilling operations, wellbore stability, hydraulics, casing, cementing, well control, and well integrity.
- Experience coordinating multiple oilfield service companies and drilling contractors.
- Ability to interpret drilling programs, well schematics, casing designs, cementing programs, BHA designs, and drilling reports.
- Knowledge of API, ISO, IADC, IWCF, and applicable company well construction standards.
- Valid IWCF or IADC Well Control certification where required.
- Strong knowledge of HSE, risk assessment, PTW, SIMOPS, and emergency response requirements.
- Good analytical, troubleshooting, leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant drilling/well monitoring software.
