Locations: Delta, Lagos and Rivers

Responsibilies

• Supervise drilling and completion execution, ensuring all activities conform to approved plans and are performed safely, efficiently, and economically.
• Manage manpower, rigs, material supplies, and stocks, resolving any issues that could delay progress.
• Prepare, schedule, coordinate, and monitor daily drilling activities.
• Ensure contractor personnel, services, and materials are available at the well site as needed to avoid delays.
• Ensure all operations are carried out in accordance with OERNL standards, HSEQ procedures, and good oilfield practice.
• Monitor compliance with codes, QA/QC policies, performance standards, and specifications.
• Personally supervise delicate or risky operations and optimize activities in relation to engineering, geology, and reservoir entities.
• Review operational deliverables and initiate corrective actions as needed.
• Provide required documents and reports to the company in due time.
• Report regularly to the drilling/completion superintendent on progress and agree on corrective actions if necessary.
• Validate rig-based reports and calculations, ensuring reliability of operational information (DDRs, cost follow-up sheets, etc.).
• Perform post-operational debriefings and prepare lessons-learned reports.
• Act as the interface for field and office communication.
• Coordinate drilling and completion activities in line with the program, OERNL procedures, and best practices.
• Represent OERNL at the well site in all matters.
• Monitor consumption and stock of materials at the well site, requesting personnel, materials, and services in due time.
• Optimize rig equipment and the activities of service providers, assessing their performance.
• Analyze mud logging data and other drilling parameters, taking appropriate actions in case of abnormal trends.
• Anticipate potential problems and plan alternative strategies.
• Compose and review OERNL operating procedures.
• Participate in operational decisions and contribute to drilling and completion improvement plans.
• Participate in the production of technical and operational syntheses.
• Oversee remote safety and emergency systems, including rig safety emergency shutdown.
• Ensure respect for safety and environmental rules, safeguarding OERNL’s assets.
• Organize drills, assess rig readiness for emergencies, and lead HSE awareness actions.
• Manage HSE action plans and ensure personnel are familiar with reference documents, training, and accreditations.
• Report and analyze any incident or anomaly, maintaining transparency.
• Responsible for the day-to-day running of the rig.
• Participate in the training of OERNL junior staff.

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher national diploma in Petroleum Engineering, Geology, or a related engineering discipline.
• An MSc in petroleum/geology or a related engineering field is preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience spanning both office-based engineering and active field supervisory positions.
• A minimum of 5 years dedicated to complex, high-risk drilling environments is preferred.

Technical Skills:

• Advanced proficiency in Wellview data software, Compass or related engineering & well design software, and the Microsoft Office suite.

Certifications:

• Valid BOSIET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training)
• IWCF (International Well Control Forum) or IADC Well Cap Level 4 certification.
