About the Role The City of Dayton seeks a leader to supervise and perform skilled tasks in repairing, operating, maintaining and installing Water Utility assets. The role mentors Water & Sewer Worker I and II staff, handles field and office troubleshooting, and responds to on-call emergencies around the clock. The incumbent will learn and use complex data software systems. What You'll Do
- Lead a crew in a variety of skilled tasks including repair, operation, maintenance and installation of Water Utility assets.
- Mentor and assist with training Water & Sewer Worker I and II staff.
- Troubleshoot customer complaints and either resolve them or gather information for resolution, in the field or office.
- Respond to on-call emergency situations 24 hours a day, year-round.
- Learn and use complex data software systems. What We're Looking For
- Education: High school diploma or GED.
- Experience: Either five years in construction and/or operation/maintenance of water/wastewater/storm water systems OR two years as a City of Dayton Water & Sewer Worker I or II with an Ohio EPA Class I Water Distribution or Class I Wastewater Collections certification.
- License: Valid driver's license at time of appointment; must obtain Ohio Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement within 150 days; air brakes qualification and other endorsements as required by Ohio.
- Special Requirements: Ohio EPA Class I Wastewater Collection or Class I Water Distribution certification required within 30 months of appointment and maintained thereafter.
- Promotional eligibility: For internal candidates in specified pay grades, with six months of City service, scores may be adjusted by seniority or random method.
- Open Competitive candidates: Final appointment contingent on medical examination, employment eligibility documentation; scores broken by random method.
