Job title: Water Production Maintenance Technician

About the Role The Water Production Maintenance Technician role with the City of Kerrville is responsible for maintaining and repairing the Water Production facility and its wells. This on-site position focuses on scheduled preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, and facility enhancements to ensure safe and reliable water production operations.

What You'll Do

  • Maintain facilities by scheduling and performing preventative maintenance on pumps and motors, valves and piping, and performing lubrication and oil changes.
  • Improve facilities by fabricating and constructing new pump rooms, hoists, stairways, vaults, spillways, pipe racks and workbenches, and installing new electric compressed air lines.
  • Perform emergency maintenance by repairing damaged water production equipment.
  • Handle chlorine cylinders, regulators, and associated piping.
  • Perform grounds maintenance and other duties by relieving other operators in their absence.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and a driving record that complies with City standards; Grade C Surface Water Operator Certification (or obtain within one year); Grade C Ground Water Operator Certification (or obtain within one year).
  • Experience: One year maintenance experience.
  • Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of vocational/technical areas; general carpentry skills; ability to seek/certify training or licenses as required by federal/state laws; ability to operate a City vehicle; ability to work irregular schedules; ability to maintain good working relationships with staff and the public; ability to provide direction to helpers.
  • Tools/Equipment: Familiarity with trucks, boats, trailers, tractors, mowers, weed eaters, chain saws, hand tools, power tools, welder, cutting torch, pipe cutters, multimeter, computer; appropriate safety equipment.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $22/hour
  • Schedule: On-site with 24-hour on-call duties, rotation for weekend duty and night call-outs
  • Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision (employee benefits with budget approvals), Life/AD&D, Long Term Disability; Longevity benefits ($4.00 per month for each complete full month)
  • Other: Benefits terms depend on budget approvals and are described by the City of Kerrville.
