About the Role This temporary position at Alaska Pacific University supports the Aquatic Programs Manager by delivering aerobic instruction, ensuring safe swimming environments, and fostering an inclusive fitness program for patrons. What You'll Do
- Provide aerobic instruction.
- Monitor and educate patrons on fitness and safety.
- Demonstrate proper technique, understand muscle groups, and safe workout practices.
- Adapt the exercise for different fitness levels.
- Maintain a positive and inclusive environment. What We're Looking For
- Strong working knowledge of swimming and pool programs, plus safety rules and precautions.
- Ability to teach aerobics and maintain a safe, positive swimming environment.
- Effective communication and ability to work cooperatively with the public and coworkers.
- Commitment to treating all patrons equally, including those at risk or with special needs.
- Minimum education: High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimal experience: Non-Supervisory—one year of swimming instruction; CPR/AED for professional rescuer preferred.
- Minimum certification: Certification from a recognized fitness association (e.g., ASFA Water Aerobics Instructor or AEA Aquatic Fitness Professional Certification), with ongoing renewal/recertification obligations.
- Minimum physical requirements: Standing, walking, sitting, reaching with hands and arms, climbing stairs, balancing, kneeling; ability to lift/carry up to 25 pounds. Nice to Have
