Job title: Volunteer Tax-Aide Counselor
About the Role AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers provide free help filing taxes to eligible taxpayers, with a special focus on those over 50 and low to moderate income. You can choose to have an IRS-certified volunteer prepare your taxes or receive coaching so you can prepare them yourself. Tax-Aide operates at thousands of sites nationwide during the tax season to help people file at no cost.
What You'll Do
- Provide free tax preparation or coaching at assigned locations
- Maintain IRS certification and stay up-to-date with the latest tax law changes
- Assist clients at sites such as libraries, malls, banks and community centers across all 50 states
- Help eligible taxpayers maximize credits and deductions
- Use the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Service Locator to find nearby sites and schedule appointments
- Communicate with clients in English and Spanish when needed
What We're Looking For
- IRS certification maintained annually
- Ability to explain tax concepts clearly to taxpayers
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Willingness to volunteer and commit during tax season
- Ability to work in a team and adapt to different site locations
Nice to Have
- Spanish-speaking ability or willingness to communicate in Spanish
Compensation & Benefits
- This is a volunteer role with no monetary compensation; training and ongoing IRS certification are provided. You are trained on data up to October 2023.
