Job description
Birth Trauma Australia (BTA) is the national peak body dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of birth-related trauma. We lead the way in amplifying the voices of consumers and healthcare professionals to ensure safer births and better healing. Our team is heart-led, compassionate and deeply committed to a trauma-informed approach in everything we do.
As we celebrate 10 years of supporting families and advocating for change, our community, our reach and our ambitions are growing fast. This is a rare chance to step in at exactly the right time and put your own stamp on how a national charity shows up online, not just keeping things ticking over, but helping to build what comes next.
Working closely with our Marketing and Communications Manager, you’ll have real ownership of BTA’s social channels, helping to grow a safe, supportive online community for families affected by birth-related trauma and the professionals who care for them.
This isn’t a “post and forget” role. You’ll have the freedom to bring fresh ideas, test new approaches and watch your impact grow alongside ours.
What You’ll Lead
- Content creation and copywriting: Craft trauma-informed copy and scroll-stopping assets in Canva Pro that bring BTA’s brand and warm, compassionate voice to life.
- Planning and scheduling: Own the weekly content calendar across our social channels, keeping our presence consistent, engaging and growing.
- Community management: Nurture an inclusive, respectful and supportive online space, responding to comments and messages with care.
- Storytelling: Help curate and share lived-experience stories ethically and safely, amplifying the voices at the heart of our work.
- Campaigns: Play a key role in our major awareness and fundraising moments, including Birth Trauma Awareness Week.
- Insights and ideas: Keep an eye on what’s working, spot trends and opportunities, and bring forward ideas to extend our reach and engagement.
About You
- You’re experienced. You have solid, hands-on experience coordinating social media and are confident across Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn, scheduling tools such as Post Planner, and design tools like Canva.
- You’re passionate about perinatal wellbeing. You believe every family deserves a safe, respectful birth and the support to heal when it doesn’t go to plan.
- You’re a self-starter. You bring drive and initiative, you spot opportunities, share ideas and follow through without needing to be asked.
- You communicate with heart. Your style is sensitive and empathetic. Experience in trauma-informed communication is a bonus, and we’ll support you to deepen it.
- You have time to give. You have some spare time each week and are looking for a meaningful way to put your skills to work.
- You’re organised and reliable. You work well independently while staying connected and collaborative with the team.
Time Commitment
- Estimated: 7 hours per week.
- Flexibility: Fully remote, with flexible hours that fit around your life. We care about impact, not clocking in.
Why Join Us?
- Be part of our growth: Join BTA during an exciting period of growth and help shape what comes next.
- Make a real impact: Directly increase the visibility of birth trauma and support families on their healing journey.
- Ownership and influence: Your expertise will be valued, and your ideas heard and put into action.
- Mentorship and connection: Work alongside our Marketing and Communications Manager and CEO, and connect with a small, passionate national team.
- A kind culture: Join a supportive, peer-led environment where your wellbeing, growth and goals are a priority.
- Build your profile: Add meaningful leadership experience with a national charity to your portfolio.
