About the Role This volunteer opportunity is for individuals who have prearranged to attend a Northwest Outdoor Science School site or event. Volunteers participate under NWRESD staff guidance and must complete a background check and Oregon Department of Education fingerprint clearance. A Volunteer Application must be completed before beginning any activity, and the process can take up to 14 business days. In the SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION UPLOAD section of your application, please include: FULL LEGAL NAME; NAME OF THE STUDENT OR OUTDOOR SCHOOL PARTICIPANT YOU ARE AFFILIATED WITH; DATES THAT YOU WILL ATTEND OUTDOOR SCHOOL; DATES THAT YOUR STUDENT IS ATTENDING OUTDOOR SCHOOL; OUTDOOR SCHOOL SITE; SCHOOL YOUR STUDENT ATTENDS. All adults attending must submit their own applications; applications cannot be submitted for married couples or groups. What You'll Do
- Sign in and out of the building/site and wear a badge identifying you as a volunteer.
- Support teachers and staff as you are able; maintain student confidentiality.
- Do not discipline students; refer matters to the appropriate staff member.
- Ensure students are supervised at all times and assist with emergencies using the room communication system; send a student to the office if needed.
- Participate in emergency drills as directed by school staff; call for staff if bodily fluids are involved; note that volunteers are not trained to handle bodily fluids.
- Be reliable and communicate promptly if you cannot volunteer or will be late.
- Set a positive example for students; dress and behave appropriately; no profanity, smoking, or promotion of personal religious doctrine in NWRESD facilities.
- Follow NWRESD policy on Acceptable Use of Electronic and Network Services when using NWRESD devices or networks (EDE and EDE-AR). What We're Looking For
- Prearranged attendance to participate at a Northwest Outdoor Science School site or event.
- Willingness to complete a Volunteer Application/Guidelines form and undergo a background check and Oregon Department of Education fingerprint clearance; allow up to 14 business days to complete.
- Ability to sign in/out, wear identification, and maintain confidentiality; ability to work with staff and follow directions.
- Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to be a positive role model for students; ability to handle emergencies as directed by staff.
- Acceptable dress and behavior; no profanity, smoking, or promotion of personal religious doctrine in NWRESD facilities.
