About the Role The Voice and Unified Communications Engineer reports to the Network Communications Manager and collaborates with Technology Managers to deliver technical services across Squire Patton Boggs. You will support the design, implementation, commissioning, and decommissioning of voice and UC infrastructure on a global basis, while driving problem resolution and knowledge transfer across the technology organization. What You'll Do
- Maintain, administer, and troubleshoot the Firm's existing Voice platforms, including voicemail, devices and associated lines, electronic fax solutions and call reporting solutions.
- Support transitions to Unified Communications platforms (design, auditing, testing, configuring and deploying solutions on a global basis).
- Maintain platform capacity, reliability, and availability; monitor health using network monitoring and analysis tools.
- Troubleshoot Cisco voice systems; work with external vendors to identify faults and log circuit outages; coordinate with manufacturers' support teams to resolve issues.
- Analyze telecommunications requirements and plans, program and test telecommunication systems.
- Assess security vulnerabilities and manage remediation; apply major upgrades where appropriate.
- Prepare and maintain technical platform documentation; assist in capturing data for the design and implementation of new UC systems.
- Perform preventative maintenance (on-site and remote) of voice-related systems, including cable plant, firmware updates and platform level updates; monitor performance and carry out repairs.
- Configure, verify and monitor system backups; program the Cisco platform and maintain routing tables efficiently.
- Maintain and recommend security systems to protect against unauthorized access and analyze data to detect unauthorized usage and fraud.
- Work as part of a global team on design and implementation of UC solutions, ensuring proactive capacity planning and contingency/recovery planning. What We're Looking For
- Experience with VoIP and telephony systems; familiarity with UC Platforms (Microsoft Teams, Cisco Webex, Zoom).
- Knowledge of Cloud Technologies (AWS, Azure, cloud UC solutions).
- Understanding of voice protocols (SIP, T1/E1) and security considerations.
- Ability to troubleshoot, coordinate with vendors, and manage outages; strong documentation skills.
- Capacity planning mindset with a focus on reliability, performance, and recovery.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills; ability to transfer knowledge across teams. Nice to Have
- Additional experience with security systems and network monitoring tools; disaster recovery planning.
