Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Xavier University of Louisiana
The Department of Mathematics at Xavier University of Louisiana invites applications for a three-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics position beginning in August 2027.
The Department of Mathematics offers undergraduate degree programs in Mathematics, Statistics, and Data Science and is committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, and student success. The Department seeks a faculty member who demonstrates strong potential for excellence in teaching, mentoring undergraduate students, and contributing to a vibrant academic community. The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or a closely related field by the start date of the appointment. Candidates with expertise in any area of mathematics, statistics, or data science are encouraged to apply.
Teaching responsibilities include courses across the mathematics curriculum, including courses in mathematics, statistics, and data science. The successful candidate will teach 24 credit hours per academic year, engage in departmental and university service, and maintain an active scholarly agenda that, when appropriate, involves undergraduate students in research and other scholarly activities.

Duties

Teach undergraduate mathematics, statistics, and data science courses at all levels

Advise undergraduate majors in the department

Mentor undergraduate students in scholarly projects

Participate in service activities for the department, university, and community

Minimum Qualifications

PhD in Mathematics or Statistics (degree must be conferred by the time of appointment)

Strong commitment to teaching a 24-hour yearly teaching load

Ability to develop and teach face-to-face classes

Demonstrated a strong potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students

About Xavier

Founded in 1925 by Saint Katharine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, Xavier University of Louisiana is the only Catholic Historically Black College and University (HBCU). Located in New Orleans, the ultimate purpose of the University is to contribute to the promotion of a more just and humane society by preparing its students to assume roles of leadership and service in a global society. Xavier University of Louisiana’s current enrollment is 3,419. Of these, 2,693 are undergraduates and 205 are graduate students enrolled in Masters and Doctoral programs in the College of Arts and Sciences. In addition, there are 518 students enrolled in the College of Pharmacy, which offers the Master of Health Science in Physician Assistant Studies, the Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences, and the Doctor of Pharmacy. Xavier’s student body is 80% African American, with approximately 37% from Louisiana, primarily from the New Orleans area. The balance comes from 42 other states, the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands, and several countries.
