About the Role The Department of Classics in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for a one-year non-renewable Visiting Assistant Professor position in Classics, with specialization in the histories of Greece and Rome. The appointment will begin on August 15, 2026, and entails a 2/2 or 2/3 teaching load. Teaching duties will include Greek History, Roman History, in addition to one of our advanced Civilization courses in the Spring (Athenian Democracy; History of Medicine; Ancient Warfare, vel sim.). A Ph.D. in Classics or a related field by the time of appointment is expected, although we will also consider advanced Ph.D. candidates. Candidates who are not US citizens are eligible for this position provided that they are already studying or working in the United States. What You'll Do
- Teach undergraduate courses in translation on Ancient Greek and Roman History
- Teach undergraduate course in translation on Greek and/or Roman civilization What We're Looking For
- Doctoral Degree in Classics or a related field, completed or expected within one academic year
- In-depth knowledge in the field of Classics
- Experience teaching introductory history or related civilization courses Nice to Have
