Job Summary/Basic Function:

The School of Humanities and Cultural Studies (SoHCS) at Wright State University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of English beginning August 2027.

We seek candidates whose primary expertise is in Digital Humanities and/or Public Humanities, with additional expertise in areas such as film studies, new media, creative writing, professional writing, or related fields.

The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and graduate instruction in English, including interdisciplinary teaching and curricular development that integrate digital tools, public-facing scholarship, and project-based learning.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in English or closely related field by start date; ABD candidates will be considered with degree conferral by 07/31/2028.
  • Proven experience teaching at the undergraduate level. TA experience will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience teaching at the graduate level.
  • Ability to engage in service and curricular development activities as outlined in the position expectations.

Essential Functions and percent of time:

60% Teaching

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in English including:
  • Core curriculum writing courses (e.g., first-year writing).
  • Required and elective courses in the English BA program.
  • Graduate courses and seminars in the English MA program.
  • Develop and teach courses related to Digital Humanities and/or Public Humanities.
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary courses across programs within the School of Humanities and Cultural Studies.

25% Research

  • Maintain an active research agenda in Digital Humanities, Public Humanities, or a related field.
  • Pursue scholarly publication and external funding as appropriate.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate student research.

15% Service to the department, college, and university

  • Participate in departmental, college, and university service.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and program growth.
  • Support community partnerships and public-facing humanities initiatives.
