Job title: Visiting Assistant Instructor in Stellar Astrophysics

About the Role Villanova University’s Department of Astrophysics and Planetary Science invites applications for the Visiting Assistant Instructor in Stellar Astrophysics. The appointment is a six-month visiting position starting January 1, 2025, offering training and development in research, teaching, and service. The successful applicant will join Andrej Prsa’s research team to work on cutting-edge theoretical and observational aspects of binary and multiple stellar populations, and will teach an undergraduate core science course/lab to non-STEM majors with emphasis on problem-solving, laboratory experience, technology and quantitative tools, and interdisciplinary understanding. The applicant will also participate in shaping the future of research and education at Villanova.

What You'll Do

  • Partake in state-of-the-art research in theoretical and observational stellar astrophysics, computation astrophysics, astrostatistics, and related areas as part of Andrej Prsa’s research team.
  • Teach an undergraduate core science course and lab to non-STEM majors, focusing on problem-solving, laboratory experience, technology and quantitative tools, and interdisciplinary understanding.
  • Contribute to the Departmental ecosphere and participate in shaping the future of research and education at Villanova.
  • Demonstrate commitment to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive departmental culture and uphold respect for all students, staff, and faculty.

What We're Looking For

  • Interest in stellar astrophysics with willingness to engage in both theoretical and observational research.
  • Ability to join a cutting-edge research team (Andrej Prsa’s group) and contribute to research on binary and multiple stellar populations.
  • Experience or ability to teach an undergraduate core science course/lab to non-STEM majors with emphasis on problem-solving, laboratory experience, technology and quantitative tools, and interdisciplinary understanding.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in academic settings.
