Vice President– Legal Recovery (Secured Loans – Home Loans ,MBL & LAP) Location: Mumbai Designation: National Head– Legal Recovery Function: Legal & Collections / Recovery CTC: Best in the Industry
Role Overview:- We are looking for an experienced Vice President – Legal Recovery to lead the Pan-India Legal Recovery function for the Bank’s Secured Loans portfolio, primarily covering Home Loans,MBL and LAP. Strong experience in litigation. The role will be responsible for developing and executing legal recovery strategies, managing litigation and enforcement proceedings, driving NPA resolution and recovery of secured assets, and ensuring timely resolution of stressed and delinquent accounts.
The position will work closely with Collections, Credit, Risk, Business, Compliance, Operations and external legal partners to maximise recovery outcomes and minimise credit losses.
Key Responsibilities:-
- Lead end-to-end legal recovery for secured loan portfolios, primarily Home Loans,MBL.
- Develop and implement legal recovery strategies for delinquent, stressed and NPA accounts.
- Drive recovery through appropriate legal and enforcement mechanisms for secured assets.
- Handle proceedings under applicable laws, including the SARFAESI Act, DRT proceedings, civil proceedings, arbitration, Section 138 of the NI Act and consumer matters, wherever applicable.
- Manage the complete legal recovery lifecycle, including pre-litigation notices, demand notices, possession proceedings, litigation, execution and closure.
- Drive timely resolution of NPAs through legal intervention, settlement, enforcement and sale of secured assets.
- Manage and monitor SARFAESI proceedings, including issuance of notices, possession, assistance from authorities and subsequent recovery actions.
- Handle DRT/DRAT and other court proceedings relating to secured loan recovery.
- Coordinate with Collections and Credit teams for identification and prioritisation of high-value and legally recoverable accounts.
- Oversee legal notices, summons, warrants, possession-related proceedings, execution petitions and other recovery documentation.
- Manage law firms, panel advocates, legal vendors and external recovery partners across India.
- Review and vet legal documents, pleadings, notices, agreements, affidavits and recovery-related documentation.
- Monitor the progress of litigation and enforcement cases to ensure timely movement and resolution.
- Drive NPA resolution and recovery targets through effective legal strategies.
- Prepare and monitor MIS/dashboards covering litigation status, recovery performance, ageing, case movement, possession status and legal recovery outcomes.
- Conduct regular reviews with senior management and provide updates on legal recovery, NPA resolution and litigation performance.
- Ensure adherence to RBI guidelines, regulatory requirements, internal policies and legal/compliance standards.
- Conduct legal and process audits of external law firms and recovery partners.
- Identify process gaps and implement SOPs, controls and process improvements to improve legal recovery efficiency.
- Work closely with Business, Collections, Credit and Risk teams on high-risk and chronic delinquency accounts.
- Handle customer disputes, consumer complaints and litigation arising from recovery and enforcement activities.
- Liaise with courts, DRTs, DRATs, government authorities, police authorities and other statutory bodies, wherever required.
- Lead, mentor and develop the legal recovery team and ensure achievement of defined recovery and litigation KPIs.
Ideal Candidate Profile:- 15+ years of experience in Legal Recovery, Collections Legal, or Litigation, preferably with a Bank, NBFC or Housing Finance Company. Strong experience in secured lending, particularly Home Loans,MBL and LAP. Strong hands-on experience in NPA resolution, recovery litigation and enforcement of secured assets. Strong understanding of the SARFAESI Act, DRT/DRAT proceedings, Section 138 NI Act, Civil & Criminal Laws and Consumer Laws. Experience in handling possession, auction and enforcement-related matters will be preferred. Experience in managing large-scale litigation portfolios and external law firms/panel advocates. Experience in managing Pan-India legal recovery operations. Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to work closely with Collections, Credit, Risk, Compliance and Business teams. Strong leadership, negotiation, analytical and decision-making capabilities. LL.B. / LL.M. qualification from a recognised university.
