About this role
About the Role The Vice President, Genome Technologies will provide scientific, strategic, and operational leadership for NYGC's genome technology enterprise, including high-throughput sequencing, single-cell and spatial genomics, emerging multiomic technologies, laboratory automation, and technology innovation. This role will develop and execute a long-term technology strategy, align platform capabilities with investigator‑led science, and position NYGC at the forefront of genome science while ensuring operational excellence for large-scale collaborative research and externally funded programs. What You'll Do
- Provide scientific leadership and technical expertise to shape major institutional initiatives, partnerships, and collaborative research programs; serve as a scientific thought partner in defining NYGC’s research direction across genomics, sequencing technologies, and large-scale data generation.
- Build and sustain multi-institutional collaborations with academia, healthcare systems, nonprofit organizations, and industry.
- Lead NIH and other grant applications, serving as Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI on major proposals.
- Represent the Center externally as a scientific leader to the genomics community, including NIH, funding agencies, and key partners.
- Develop and lead a multi-year technology roadmap; identify, evaluate, and implement transformative technologies spanning sequencing, single-cell, spatial, long-read, genome engineering, multiomic, and future platforms; establish strategic partnerships with biotechnology companies for early access to emerging technologies.
- Partner closely with computational scientists and AI researchers to develop datasets and technology platforms that accelerate AI-enabled genome interpretation.
- Partner with NYGC faculty to align technology development with investigator‑initiated science and institutional priorities, ensuring integration between platform capabilities and internal research programs.
- Promote high-impact collaborative publications that showcase NYGC's scientific and technological leadership.
- Oversee research operations strategy and execution: manage evaluation, validation, implementation, and lifecycle management of genome technology platforms; ensure scalability, reproducibility, cost-effectiveness, and readiness for large projects.
- Translate emerging biological questions into innovative technology solutions; lead programs involving Institutional Founding Members (IFMs), hospitals, and collaborators.
- Oversee operational budgeting and capital planning: develop annual operating and capital budgets; manage investments in instrumentation, automation, laboratory infrastructure, and platform enhancements; establish metrics and quality indicators.
- Ensure sequencing operations are aligned with grant commitments and scientific objectives; drive efficiency, scalability, and quality; oversee the adoption of new sequencing technologies and methodologies; provide deep expertise in next-generation sequencing (NGS).
- Optimize laboratory capacity, resource allocation, and workflows; partner with Finance on pricing and cost-recovery models; monitor external market trends and negotiate strategic agreements with vendors.
- Grant development and external engagement: lead NIH and other grant applications, serving as PI/Co-PI where appropriate, and foster consortia and partnerships that expand NYGC’s scientific and funding footprint.
