Vice President for Programs (VPP)

About the Role The Vice President for Programs (VPP) will have significant responsibility for advancing Proteus Fund's vision of a world rooted in rights, justice, dignity, and democracy. The VPP will oversee Proteus' donor collaborative portfolio and manage four donor collaborative directors, leading cross-donor programming and grantmaking while cultivating new collaboratives essential to the future of inclusive democracy and marginalized communities. What You'll Do

• Vision, Mission, and Organizational Culture: Work with the President, donor collaborative directors, and colleagues to ensure Proteus Fund's vision, mission and values are manifest in our work, narrative, and the donor collaboration model; maintain strategic positioning and craft a donor collaborative culture aligned with ongoing operations.
• Program Management and Development: Maintain a cutting-edge, high-impact donor collaborative portfolio; develop a high-level understanding of donor collaborative work and social justice dynamics; lead cross-donor grantmaking and programming on grantee safety and security and grantee operational compliance and best practices; develop an internal learning environment for the full donor collaborative team.
• Supervision and Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and provide direction to donor collaborative directors, including strategic thought partnership, leadership development, and performance evaluation; support annual work plans and multi-year strategic plans; oversee recruitment of new donor collaborative directors and provide interim support as needed.
• New Initiatives: Lead efforts to explore and develop new donor collaboratives advancing social justice issues.
• Compliance and Partnerships: Ensure legal/regulatory compliance and ethical standards for donor collaborative grantmaking in coordination with Proteus' legal counsel and grants management team; strengthen relationships with sister philanthropic intermediaries; identify trends to inform new initiative development.
• Resource Development and Fundraising: Advocate and inspire current and potential funders to support donor collaboratives through meaningful, partnership-oriented engagement; cultivate and manage relationships with key donors in coordination with Proteus' broader fundraising program. What We're Looking For
• A track record of senior leadership in philanthropy or nonprofit management, with experience overseeing donor collaboratives or cross-organizational grantmaking.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise and develop directors, with strong people leadership, coaching, and performance evaluation skills.
• Excellent relationship-building and communication skills with diverse stakeholders, including grantees, funders, and partner intermediaries; ability to work across a national network.
• Strategic thinker with experience translating vision into program design, multi-year plans, and measurable impact; familiarity with social justice philanthropy and donor ecosystems.
• Knowledge of grantee safety and security, grantee operational compliance, and ethical/legal/regulatory standards.
