About the Role The Long Island University College of Veterinary Medicine (LIU-CVM) invites applications for 2 full-time Veterinary Assistant positions. These roles are primarily located at North Shore Animal League (NSAL) with some work at LIU-CVM Post campus. They will assist in our shelter medicine program and/or emergency critical care and surgical service programs, with opportunities to assist in small animal laboratories and outreach programs overseen by clinical faculty.
What You'll Do
- Assist veterinarians, faculty, and clinical staff with routine patient care, handling, and restraint of small animals.
- Support clinical and shelter operations by preparing exam rooms, cleaning and organizing work areas, and restocking supplies.
- Help prepare animals for exams, procedures, and surgery, and assist with basic post-procedure monitoring.
- Maintain clear and accurate records by assisting with charting and documentation as directed.
- Work collaboratively with faculty, students, technicians, and shelter staff to support patient care, teaching activities, and outreach programs.
What We're Looking For
- Must have extensive veterinary assistant experience or successful completion of a Veterinary Technician program.
- Work experience and familiarity with the veterinary medical profession.
- Good people skills / team player.
- On-the-fly problem solver.
- Experience with teaching students will strengthen the position, but is not essential.
- Knowledge of small animal techniques and handling skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience with teaching students (optional/preferred).
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $50,000-$55,000 per year (USD). FLSA status: Non-exempt.
