Job title: VAT Specialist – Benelux
About the Role Take end-to-end ownership of VAT compliance and reporting for the Benelux entities. Serve as VAT subject matter expert, ensuring accuracy, compliance with legislation, and continuous improvement of VAT-related processes, while collaborating with internal stakeholders and global teams.
What You'll Do
- Take full, independent ownership of the accurate preparation and submission of VAT returns for the Benelux countries.
- Independently prepare and submit EC Sales Lists for the Benelux.
- Reconcile VAT balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis, investigating discrepancies and preparing the required journal entries.
- Monitor VAT legislative and regulatory changes in the Benelux, assessing their impact on the business, and collaborate with the VAT team to ensure timely and compliant implementation.
- Support the Tax Technology team on project-based work, including process improvements and VAT reporting requirements for IT systems.
- Provide training, mentorship, and guidance to the business on VAT-related matters.
- Actively promote collaboration, standardization, and continuous improvement across VAT processes and controls.
- Support and contribute to various VAT-related projects, such as: Compliance checklists, Real-time reporting initiatives, VAT accounts procedures, E-invoicing implementations.
- Set up and further develop VAT processes and policies, including the transition from outsourced activities to a fully in-house, well-documented and continuously updated setup.
- Ensure all activities are performed in line with Yara’s global Ethics & Compliance policies, as well as Health, Safety and Security principles, relevant legislation, and Yara’s golden rules.
What We're Looking For
- A Master’s degree in Finance or Tax, with a strong focus on Finance and/or Accounting.
- Solid knowledge of VAT formalities and legislation applicable in the Benelux countries.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and related financial procedures.
- Practical, advanced experience with ERP systems, preferably SAP.
- A hands-on mentality combined with a proactive, solution-oriented attitude.
- The ability to use personal judgement and initiative to develop effective and constructive solutions to challenges and obstacles.
- Strong communication skills, both externally (e.g. liaising with tax authorities) and internally (working with key stakeholders across the business).
- An enthusiastic, flexible and collaborative team player who thrives in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
- A high level of accuracy, attention to detail and a strong result-oriented mindset.
- Working knowledge of at least one additional language: Dutch, French or German.
- Additional information: This position is preferably based in Belgium or the Netherlands.

- Experience with real-time reporting initiatives, VAT accounts procedures and E-invoicing implementations.
