Job Summary
- Assist with fabrication, assembly, inspection, and testing of electronic hardware
- Help operate and maintain lab equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, soldering stations, etc.)
- Assist with troubleshooting electronic hardware, cables, and laboratory test setups
- Support repairs of research instruments (power, control, cabling, and related electronics)
- Assist with circuit assembly, basic design/simulation support, integration, and testing
- Maintain parts inventory, component tracking, and work documentation
- Improve shop processes and written procedures as assigned
- Communicate with researchers and other campus shops as needed
Responsibilities
- Minimum Qualifications
- Current University of Utah student
- Able to work at least 19 hours per week during the academic year
- Interest in or background in electrical engineering or electronics
- Able to work independently
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Dependable, detail-oriented, and able to follow written and verbal instructions
- Preferences
- Preferably a student in their senior year or master’s, or graduate student
- Coursework or hands-on experience in circuits, electronics, or instrumentation
- Experience with soldering, multimeters, oscilloscopes, or similar tools
- Basic computer/programming experience (Python, MATLAB, or similar is a plus)
- Experience maintaining or troubleshooting electronic or electromechanical equipment
