About this role
About Morpho
Morpho is a leading Decentralized Finance (DeFi) lending protocol backed by a16z crypto, Paradigm, Ribbit Capital, Apollo, Vaneck, Coinbase Ventures, Variant and 50 others to build an open credit network giving anyone, anywhere, access to the best possible terms. Morpho is experiencing exponential adoption, with over billion in deposits on the network and used by institutional clients including Bitwise, Galaxy, and Anchorage Digital and the largest crypto exchanges, such as Coinbase, Binance, and Kraken. Now, Morpho is scaling its team of contributors to establish itself as the open credit network, not just of DeFi, but of the world.
Why Morpho Exists
Everyone has the potential to build something great for the world. But fulfilling that ambition almost always requires more: people willing to trust you with their capital. Yet access to capital still depends on where you live, who you know, and which institutions are willing to trust you. Even when capital is available, it sits fragmented across disconnected networks and hidden behind intermediaries. The result is a system that fails most of the people it should serve. Borrowers overpay. Lenders earn less than they should. Many are shut out entirely, not because they are unworthy of credit, but because today's infrastructure was never built to connect them. Morpho exists to solve this. Full article here.
Location
Remote - US (Washington, DC preferred)
Role
US regulatory engagement is Morpho's top legal priority. The SEC, CFTC, Treasury and FinCEN are writing the rules that will govern onchain lending, and the volume of rulemakings, requests for comment and staff engagement now exceeds what Legal can cover alongside its other work. Reporting to the General Counsel, this role owns Morpho's US policy pipeline end to end, from tracking rulemakings to drafting submissions and leading meetings with agency staff, Congress and industry coalitions.
Responsibilities
-
Track SEC, CFTC, Treasury and FinCEN rulemakings, guidance, staff statements and enforcement relevant to onchain lending, and maintain a live calendar of comment deadlines with a recommended posture for each.
-
Lead the drafting of comment letters, responses to requests for comment and other written submissions, pulling in input from Protocol, Product, Research and outside counsel, and prepare them for General Counsel sign-off.
-
Prepare and lead meetings with agency staff and commissioner offices, including briefing materials, talking points and follow-up submissions.
-
Represent Morpho in trade association working groups and industry coalitions, and coordinate Morpho's input into joint filings.
-
Engage congressional offices and committee staff on legislation and its implementation where it affects DeFi lending.
-
Manage outside policy counsel and consultants day to day: scope, deliverables and spend.
-
Brief leadership and product teams on US policy developments in short written updates, and flag implications for the protocol, products and external messaging.
What Success Looks Like
First 30 days
You can explain Morpho Markets, Morpho Vaults and the role of curators accurately to a non-technical regulator. You have built a tracker of open SEC, CFTC, Treasury and FinCEN items with a recommended posture for each, joined the relevant working groups, and contributed to at least one live comment letter or coalition submission.
First 3 months
You own the comment pipeline end to end: first drafts reach the General Counsel on schedule with no missed deadlines. You have prepared and led at least two agency meetings, send a short monthly US policy update to leadership, and have working relationships with staff at the SEC, the CFTC and key congressional offices.
First 6 months
Agency staff and coalition partners treat Morpho as a credible, technical voice on DeFi lending, and Morpho's positions show up in coalition filings and, where possible, in staff guidance or final rules. Outside counsel runs against clear deliverables and within budget, and you have drafted a 2027 US policy plan for General Counsel approval.
Must Have Skills & Experience
-
5 to 8 years working on SEC or CFTC matters, at an agency, in a law firm regulatory practice, at a trade association or on an in-house regulatory or policy team. Prior SEC or CFTC staff experience is strongly preferred.
-
Strong working knowledge of federal securities and commodities law and of the rulemaking process: notice and comment, staff guidance, no-action and exemptive relief.
-
Excellent writing, with comment letters, regulatory submissions or similar work product to show for it.
-
Existing relationships with agency staff, congressional staff or industry coalitions.
-
Able to learn how onchain lending works and explain it clearly and accurately to a non-technical audience.
-
Sound judgment on when to escalate, and comfortable preparing positions for sign-off rather than setting them alone.
-
Strong ownership and autonomy: doesn't wait to be told.
-
Clear and crisp async communication across a team split between Paris, New York and DC.
-
Comfort operating in fast-changing, ambiguous contexts.
-
Team-first mindset, low ego.
