About the Role Taylor University seeks a University Counselor to provide direct clinical services to students, including individual and group therapy, and to engage in supervision and ongoing professional development aimed at licensure. The role also involves collaboration with staff, adherence to privacy standards, and contributing to the broader mission of Life Together.
What You'll Do
- Provides individual and group counseling for Taylor students.
- Obtains intake information and develops treatment goals.
- Maintains progress notes and provides initial assessments and termination summaries.
- Provides consultation and referrals as needed.
- Obtains appropriate releases for on- and off-campus communication.
- Maintains confidentiality and security of client files and the counseling center.
- Seeks supervision and collaborates with other counselors; engages in ongoing learning.
- Assesses suicidal ideation/self-harm, creates safety plans, and consults with the Counseling Center Director or Assistant Director.
- Discusses crisis situations with leadership and develops a plan (including potential hospitalization or withdrawal if necessary).
- Engages in additional university programs and presentations per semester.
- Other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- Master's degree in counseling, psychology, or social work.
- A professional license (or active progress toward licensure) in counseling, psychology, or social work.
- Compassionate approach while maintaining confidentiality.
- Ability to engage with individuals from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- Understanding of varied work environments and ability to articulate differences in professional contexts.
- Ability to represent Taylor University well to internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong management skills and ability to mentor students' professional development.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
- Collaborative team player who can also work independently.
