About the Role Join American International Group, Inc. (AIG) as an Underwriter - Property to leverage your technical analytics and people skills in shaping insurance solutions. This role offers a potential path to your first Senior level position as you help drive profitable growth in Property underwriting across diverse lines.
What You'll Do
- Evaluate risks, quote and issue Property policies to increase production on profitable business.
- Analyze, prepare, define structure, place and negotiate facultative reinsurance directly or via brokers, adhering to policies and procedures.
- Review engineering information, valuation reports, catastrophe modelling results, and other underwriting documents; request additional information as needed.
- Drive underwriting excellence by aligning with risk appetite, line setting, standards, and pricing adequacy.
- Collaborate with Distribution, Executive, and other underwriters to target desirable accounts and cross-sell opportunities from brokers and ceding companies.
- Provide superior customer service to brokers and clients; increase policy retention; contribute to operational efficiencies.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial, Business Administration (Finance or Accounting preferred), or related areas.
- Demonstrated business savvy, analytical and quantitative skills with strong problem-solving abilities.
- Experience in facultative reinsurance is desirable.
- Property underwriting experience of at least 1 year.
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel and Word).
- Excellent communication skills in English and Spanish (verbal, written, negotiation).
- Customer service and interpersonal skills; fast learner; good decision-making; organizational and prioritization abilities.
- Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
- Ready to take on new challenges; willing to work primarily in the office.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience stepping into progressively senior roles in underwriting is a plus.
- Multilingual capabilities beyond English and Spanish are a bonus.
