Underwater Robotic Diving Technician / ROV Operator
MAIN FUNCTIONS
- Operate Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), underwater robotic systems, and associated control equipment for subsea operations.
- Conduct underwater visual inspections of pipelines, risers, subsea structures, vessels, jetties, platforms, tanks, cables, and other marine assets.
- Deploy underwater cameras, sonar, lights, sensors, manipulators, and other robotic inspection tools.
- Perform underwater surveys, measurements, condition assessments, and monitoring of subsea equipment.
- Identify and document corrosion, cracks, marine growth, coating damage, leaks, deformation, debris, and other underwater defects.
- Support subsea maintenance, cleaning, recovery, installation, and light intervention activities using robotic equipment.
- Operate robotic manipulators and tooling for simple subsea tasks where authorized and appropriately trained.
- Record high-quality underwater video, photographs, sonar images, measurements, and operational data.
- Carry out pre-deployment and post-deployment checks of ROVs, control systems, umbilicals, cameras, sensors, and other equipment.
- Troubleshoot and report technical faults affecting robotic diving systems and coordinate repairs when required.
- Maintain accurate operational logs, equipment records, inspection data, and service reports.
- Work closely with divers, diving supervisors, engineers, inspectors, vessel crews, and offshore operations teams.
- Participate in job safety analysis (JSA), toolbox meetings, risk assessments, and permit-to-work activities.
- Ensure all operations comply with approved procedures, client requirements, manufacturer specifications, and applicable offshore and marine standards.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- HND, OND, Bachelor’s degree, or relevant technical qualification in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related discipline.
- Relevant ROV/Subsea Operations or Commercial Diving certification is an advantage.
- Training or certification in underwater inspection, NDT, or subsea survey is beneficial.
- Experience operating ROVs or underwater robotic equipment in oil & gas, marine, offshore construction, ports, or subsea inspection is preferred.
- Knowledge of offshore safety requirements and relevant marine/subsea standards.
- Valid offshore safety, medical, and other project-specific certifications may be required.
- Practical knowledge of ROV and underwater robotic systems.
- Ability to operate subsea cameras, sonar, manipulators, sensors, and associated control systems.
- Good understanding of subsea inspection, marine operations, and underwater asset integrity.
- Strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, equipment manuals, inspection procedures, and technical data.
- Good communication, documentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong situational awareness and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively offshore and under demanding environmental conditions.
- Strong commitment to HSE, equipment integrity, and operational reliability.
